Is MathsCity open?

Yes we are open!. MathsCity opened on 5th October 2021

What are your opening hours?

We are open Tuesday to Friday 10am – 4 pm and Saturday to Sunday 10am – 5pm.

We have additional opening hours in the school holidays.

Do I need to pre-book?

Pre-booking is recommended. We are following government guidelines and, at this point in time, it is possible to pay on the door. This may change if new restrictions are brought in.

You can book online using our booking system here.

Can I turn up and pay at the admission desk?

At this point in time, if there is space when you arrive, you can buy your ticket at the admissions desk. We recommend pre booking to avoid disappointment.

I’ve pre-booked, can I cancel or amend my booking?

We do not normally offer refunds. To change your booking please contact us in advance of your reserved time by email on mathscity@mathsworlduk.com  Please include your booking details and preferred new booking time in your message.

If I am an adult, can I visit without children?

Yes! MathsCity is for adults and families.

Do all children need to be accompanied by adults?

All children under 14 years need to be accompanied by an adult.

Why do I have to book a timeslot?

We have introduced 30 minute booking slots on the weekend. This is so we have capacity to accommodate all guests. We know it’s difficult to arrive exactly on time, which is why we’ve made slots of 30 minutes.

Are visits time-limited?

No, visitors can stay and enjoy MathsCity for as long as they wish. We have capped our visitor numbers each day to ensure that we don’t exceed visitor levels for social distancing. We anticipate most visits will last 1 hour 20 minutes.

Can I book over the phone?

Our booking system online is very simple to use so you should be able to do everything you need to do without support. However, our team are here to support you as best we can. If you’re able to book online, please do so. If you have any queries then email MathsCity@mathsworlduk.com

How do I get my tickets?

MathsCity will not be sending actual tickets. You need to bring your booking reference number with you on the day. You will be checked in using this when you arrive. Your confirmation email will arrive after you have booked and will contain lots of information about your visit. Please make sure you use the correct email address and check your junk mail folder before contacting us. There’s no need to print your email out.

What will you do with my personal information after I book online?

Read our Privacy Statement for more info, and please also read about the NHS test and trace system below.

Is MathsCity accessible?

MathsCity is an accessible and welcoming space.

MathsCity and the exhibits are accessible to wheelchair users. Only two exhibits cannot be fully used in a wheelchair. We have an accessible toilet.

MathsCity is a popular venue for visitors with ASD. We recommend ear defenders to avoid over stimulation.

MathsCity is not suitable for those with severe visual impairements. MathsCity is designed to give a visual experience of mathematics for those who are not happy with the symbols and numbers in mathematics.

Extra Safety Measures

What’s it like now?

The team at MathsCity have worked hard to provide a COVID-secure experience, whilst retaining the fun, family day out.

The space is free-flow. We ask parents to supervise their children in these spaces and wait until exhibits become available. Please be respectful of other visitors, it makes it a much nicer day out for everyone!

Will we still be able to play with everything?

All the interactives are open. We have careful cleaning protocols.

How are you keeping MathsCity clean?

On a day-to-day basis you’ll also see our Enablers keeping MathsCity clean throughout the day. We’re also using a careful cleaning protocol each evening.

How busy will it be?

We are limiting the number of visitors each day, so MathsCity will not be busy inside. This will be a really good time to visit!

Arrival

What do I need to bring with me on the day?

Bring your booking reference number or e-ticket. You will be asked for this on arrival. Each person in your party will be checked in using this at the desk.

Can I arrive earlier than my timeslot?

No, if you arrive earlier than your timeslot, you will be asked to wait and play outside before you enter MathsCity.

What if I miss my arrival slot?

We know it may be tricky arriving within your timeslot. However, we ask that you aim to arrive as close as possible to this to avoid having a queue build up outside the building. If you are unavoidably delayed, you may still be able to access the museum if you have a valid booking for that day and there are places available.

Will there be any school groups in?

No, MathsCity is not hosting any school visits at the same time as family visitors.

You see, the chemists have a complicated way of counting: instead of saying ‘one, two, three, four, five protons’, they say, ‘hydrogen, helium, lithium, beryllium, boron.’
